Game Documentation

These are a few samples of the many design documents that I've written for projects that I've completed over the past year. Note that all of these were done for school-related projects, so style and format of the documents varies depending upon what the particular professor wanted.

Level Design Document for "Paris" Level for Technomancy

This is the level design document for "ONS-Paris" from the Technomancy mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. The level ended up being pretty close to what was laid out in the LDD other than the fact that the middle third of the level was torn out about two weeks before completion. I realized that the level was too large and that the middle "island" section was the least interesting area, so it was removed. You can see screenshots of the final Paris level here.

Level Design Document for "Cannibal Island" Level for Red Wake

This is the level design document for "Cannibal Island" from the Red Wake mod for FAKK2. The overall layout was adjusted somewhat for VIS purposes and some additional interactions with the environment (collapsing bridge, crumbling ceilings) were added, but the document gives a good idea of how the actual map is laid out. You can see screenshots of the final Cannibal Island level here.

Level Design Document for "Kraken Attack" Level for Red Wake

This the level design document for "Kraken Attack," a level that didn't make it past the rough block-out stage. It's a shame because of all the levels documented for Red Wake, this was the one that had me the most excited. Unfortunately, "Cannibal Island" was much further along when it became necessary to make significant cuts to the scope of the game. Still, I think it would have been a great level if we could have pulled it off.

Concept Document for Technomancy: The Shadow War

This is the concept/pitch document for Technomancy: The Shadow War. Different team members wrote different sections of the document, but I rewrote or extensively edited the entire document and created the layout. We realized the day we turned in the document that there's already a game named "Arcanum" (lesson learned!) and switched it to "Technomancy."
