Drew Murray

Bio

I grew up in Dallas, spending most of my time playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and Warhammer Fantasy Battle and early video games such as King's Quest, Karateka, and Tempest. My obsession with video games grew to the point that my mom bought an actual Pac-Man arcade game for our house so that my dad and I would stop spending all of our time at the local Safeway.

I studied studio art at the University of Texas at Austin, taking classes in drawing, painting, photography, art history, and sculpture. I received merit scholarships in painting/drawing and photography and graduated with a BFA in Studio Art in 1994. After attending law school at SMU and working in New York for four years as a corporate attorney, I quit my job and sat around and played video games all day for two months until my wife suggested that I take a second look at the video game design school that I had read about on cnn.com.

In the winter of 2004 I began attending the Guildhall at SMU in Plano, Texas, where I'm studying level design, environmental modeling, and game design. Over the past year, I've completed numerous projects, most of which are featured on this website. You can read a little about my experience at the Guildhall in an article that ran in the Dallas Observer.

Upon graduating in June 2005, I hope to get a job at one of my favorite video game companies working as a level designer and/or environmental artist.

I live in Plano, Texas with my wife Katy.
